The history of the Athletics Federation of Kyrgyzstan should be attributed to the beginning of the first Council on athletics in 1954.  In 1964, the Council was transformed into the Athletics Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic with great features of social influence on the development of athletics in the country. An activity of the Federation of Kyrgyzstan was correlated with the Athletics Federation of the USSR and is aimed at the development of mass youth sports schools, search talented youth for team of the Soviet Union.

   The team of the USSR from Kyrgyzstan including more than 200 athletes, many of whom proudly defended the sports honor of country at the European Championships, World, Olympic Games and set records USSR and the World.

   Names Kolpakova Tatiana, Kulchunova Mariia, Chernetskii Nihkolai, Dzhumanazarov Satymkul, Otto Bartsch, Korsakova Vera, Sysoeva Marina, Abbyasov Shamil entered in the history book of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

   In 1993, the Athletic Federation of Kyrgyzstan became an independent public organization and joined the membership of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and later a member of the Asian Athletic Association (AAA). The main purpose and activities of the Athletics Federation of Kyrgyzstan directed to the full development of athletic sports, promotion of healthy lifestyles and expanding the network of sports schools in the country. It coordinates the work of specialists of athletics in the regions, helps members of the national team in their preparation of international, Asian, Olympic Games, Asian Championships, World.
